The coastal communities of Hills Beach, Biddeford Pool, Fortunes Rocks and Granite Point are located approximately 95 miles from Boston, 20 miles from Portland, 38 miles from Freeport (L.L. Bean) and 7 miles from Dock Square in Kennebunkport. Biddeford Pool Village has an U.S. Post office, Goldthwaite FO of Maine for groceries, Pool Lobster for fresh sea food.and Hattie’s for delicious breakfast and luncheons. Across the Pool at Hills Beach is a fine restaurant named Buffleheads. There are no hotels or motels in any of the Biddeford coastal communities.
Connecting Biddeford Pool and Fortunes Rocks is a 2 1/2 mile sandy beach that many have described as one of the finest walking beaches in the country. Hills Beach and Granite Point have smaller sandy beaches. Good fishing from shore is a popular attraction. Ocean kayaking, and wind surfing have become popular activities and the equipment is available for rental at the Pool.
Another wonderful scenic feature that attracts many visitors is the walk along the Audubon Preserve at East Point. This walk leads to spectacular views of Wood Island Lighthouse, Saco Bay and Old Orchard Beach. This has been described as one of the best birding areas in the country.
Several semi-private golf courses and public tennis courts are a short distance from the coast and open to the public. The Maine coast also features an abundance of art galleries and restaurants to suit every taste and budget.
